They may be "anonymous" for now, but if the take keeps coming up short, they'll figure out a way to determine who's not paying up.

New "Donation Arrangement" is a DECOY!
by The Searcher input yourself in the org's position - distasteful as that is - and come up with a solution to solve the problems of not only recovering their stock market losses, but also, ensuring an increase in their dwindling revenue stream.. the major problem is, donations are voluntary (with no future guarantees) whereas pledges are compulsory - in the heart and mind of the giver!.
however, far too many will probably forget/refuse to keep up their monthly tax - with no way of knowing who is 'paying the man', and who is not.
master stroke - make plan a 100% certainty to fail in the first year, based on the 'anonymity' of the setup.

Your Experience with Resigning as an Elder
by committeechairman ini'm considering resigning as an elder.
i'm not planning to fade or stop as one of jehovah's witnesses, just stop serving as an elder.. i have responsibility in the congregation and in circuit, district, rbc, etc.
and i'm completely exhausted.

I suppose the real issue is a lack of qualified men to do the work. Instead of spreading the load across many backs, it is heaped upon a few. In my opinion, the workload demanded of even the entry level publisher is enough to break a person who has any other responsibilities (like a job, family, home to care for).

The inevitable memorial invitation
by Really?! ini knew it was coming.
i'd managed to swerve it once already when i saw the paper invite laid out all special in my mothers kitchen when i arrived at her house..i avoided the kitchen for the rest of the visit.. had the family over this weekend, we were alone whilst preparing food and i knew from the second that the tone in her voice changed what was coming.
the usual words along the line of "i invite you every year, i've got the paper invite to give you as well (like that would make a difference?!

I think we've been blackballed completely - we don't even get an invitation! And we live in the same house in the middle of the same small town, just down the street from some active dubs...

by stuckinarut2 ini'm sitting here at the mtg, and i can't believe the mind numbing stupidity of this weeks wt "study"...( i use the word study loosely too by the way...).

Are my children in danger of being indoctrinated if I let them spend the night with their JW family?
by Butterflyleia85 inso... i'm writing because i have mixed feelings.
keeping my kids safe is my goal... until they are old enough to understand and reason on their own.
my mother gave me the tapes (that i gave her back in december) of combating mind control by steven hassan, saying that she didn't have a tape player... reminded me of three years ago when i gave her crisis of conscience by ray franz and she said it's to big book to read and she's not a reader.

In my opinion, the vast majority of dubs will completely disregard the parent's wishes and attempt to indoctrinate the children if given any opportunity at all to do so. They feel it is their obligation, and they will lie about it. However, you have to decide for yourself whether it is worth the risk. Your children may not be easily susceptible, or the contact may be limited enough that you feel the risk is small. Myself, I wouldn't let my kids spend time alone with a dub even if they wanted to.

Jah-Jireh retirement homes web site...GONE?
by Gill indoes any one know where the jah-jireh webs sites, the sites that deal with the jw retirement homes have gone?.
i've been interested in them for a while, (with my age and that) but they've disappeared from the web!.
does anyone know why they might have come of, been taken off, disappeared from the net.. the only reference i can find to them is a list of retirement homes with a religious bent.. thanks all!.

the starting price is actually lower than what we paid for my grandma back in 2006 in a regular nursing home. If the place is properly staffed and the residents are taken care of, I don't think it's a terrible deal. For the elderly faithful dubs, being in a place that caters to their personal delusions is a comfort, and at that stage of the game why not let them go in peace?

Are you a good person?
by Xanthippe insomething happened this week to make me think about this again.. it feels like all bets are off and i really don't know what a good person is anymore.. when i left the jws i was so sure i knew what it meant to be a good person.. this has been revised many times since.. i tend to favour the utilitarian approach, the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people.. sometimes you have to stick your neck out and say this is not good for me no matter what others may feel they need from me.. no idea where i'm going with this maybe this is a breakthrough in my life or maybe that glass of wine was stronger than i thought!.
any thoughts?.

I am mature enough to recognize and admit that most of what I do is done out of pure self interest, although I do have a streak of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". But honestly, when it comes down to the level of self preservation, there aren't many people I would sacrifice myself for. I don't think I'm a bad person though.
